Spring is in the air!

Dear Garden Lovers,

How exciting it is to see the garden burst into colour again as the season of fresh new growth arrives. It makes me want to get out into the garden and get stuck into it again!

I always think of yellow daffodils when spring arrives, because they seem to symbolise the start of the new season. As a child in New Zealand, I can remember walking through thousands of them when taking a shortcut through the neighbours farm on the way home from school! It’s too hot for daffodils here in Maleny, but in my own garden hundreds of bright yellow petals from my tabebuia trees have made a thick carpet beneath the bare branches. I held off mowing until the blooms finish because I didn’t want to spoil such a lovely sight! The magnolias, which we look down upon from the house, have been magnificent. The magnolia Vulcan was outstanding with its huge fragrant blooms of hot rose pink. You can see these lovely spring flowering trees amongst the many images in my new Garden Gallery

Here at the farm, many of the daylilies started their display three weeks earlier than usual, so we've already had plenty of colour around the paddocks. I hope you’re also enjoying some colourful early daylily blooms in your own garden.

I was amazed at the terrific response to my recent Maleny brochure. I must admit it far exceeded my expectations. It was long overdue, it seems! I have to thank Jenny for persuading me to go ahead with it. If you were one of the many customers who ordered from my Maleny brochure, a sincere thank you. I’m now checking stock numbers and colours for varieties suitable for next year’s new brochures. It might appear to be an easy job, and it would be easy if I could predict which colours will be all the rage in 2009!

I hope I get it right and we can tempt you once again next year! In the meantime, you may like to pick up a great Spring bargain from any of the special offers featured here.

Happy Spring gardening!                Scott Alexander

Crikey!  As mentioned in my Maleny brochure, we’ll be donating $2 for every plant sold of my daylily "Crikey!"  to the Steve Irwin Wildlife Warriors animal hospital at Australia Zoo, just a short drive from Maleny. Thanks to all the customers who ordered it from us recently, we’ll be able to make a generous donation to this very worthy cause.

NATURE GIVETH......and then NATURE TAKETH AWAY!

Only days away from peak bloom, the farm was full of colour last week. But late one afternoon, ominous storm clouds swept across the hilltop and unleashed fury. Within minutes, all trace of the thousands of flowers, and buds yet to open, were gone.
